Trueshan stays on the program for the Goodwood Cup after his outstanding weight-carrying victory in the Northumberland Plate.

The Alan King-trained Trueshan took on a monstrous 10st 8lb for the remaining handicap on Newcastle’s all-weather surface area on Saturday, with his trainer deciding to leg-up normal pilot Hollie Doyle rather than alleviate the concern using a pupil.

The market did not consider Trueshan to be incapable of what was an uphill struggle as he started as the 3-1 favourite and that proved right, as the hugely-popular six-year-old dominated by half a size as well as brought his winning touch approximately five unbeaten runs.

Seen only when this period before Newcastle, King had made entries for his secure star in the very early part of the project and also at Royal Ascot, but found problems to be as well quick and also thus relied on the synthetic surface area of the Northumberland Plate.

” We were totally happy and surprised too,” said the Barbury Castle handler on Sunday.

” It was a substantial ask yet we just needed to obtain a run-in to him, it was a marvellous efficiency.

” It’s very unusual on the Flat for horses to bring this amount of weight off this score but I would certainly no other option, I needed to run him somewhere. At the very least with Newcastle, we knew we could get there and find a suitable ground.

” He’s wonderful, he’s 100 per cent today which is the important thing. Onwards and also upwards hopefully.”

The Goodwood Cup, a Group One race Trueshan won in 2021, stays on the schedule, though some convenience in the ground will be essential if he is to bid to preserve his title.

” We’re training him for Goodwood, (yet) as all of us maintain claiming, it depends on what the English weather does,” King stated.

” At the very least now he’s had a run, I can leave him alone for a couple of weeks and after that construct him back up in the direction of completion of July. It’s taken a little stress off in that respect.”
